A Word From Ms. Sherry …

HE IS RISEN. HE IS RISEN INDEED!

Even in a pandemic, HOPE is alive, and His name is JESUS.

Today is Easter Sunday; the day we celebrate our risen Savior. Although we are all very sad that we cannot celebrate Jesus’ resurrection together, we can and should still celebrate within our own homes. Parents we suggest that you have your family watch Kiokee’s online service as part of your Family Worship or that you choose one of the Easter Bible Story Videos we have posted for you below. Then choose a few fun activities from our list of resources to help your child learn more about why as believers we have so much to celebrate on Easter and every other day of the year.

If your family will be watching the Kiokee Service, remember to encourage your children to fully participate in the worship of the Lord. Have your children stand and sing. Place your hand on their hand or shoulder to signal when it is time to bow their head and close their eyes to pray. Help them find the passage of scripture that Pastor Steve will be reading in their bibles and help them follow along as he reads. After Steve’s sermon, extend your time together by participating in the three key elements of Family Worship – Read the bible passage from the sermon, Pray and then Sing a chorus from one of the worship songs our band led us in today.

In preparation for your Family Worship time on Easter Sunday, you might want to consider words your child will hear in the Easter story and take some time either before you tell the story or as you are telling the story to talk to your children about what each of these words mean:

    • Disciples — 12 men that Jesus chose to follow Him, Jesus’ closest friends
    • Pharisees and Religious Leaders — the people who were not teaching the truth about God
    • Sanhedrin or Court — Leaders who decided that Jesus should be punished for telling the people that He was God’s Son.
    • Condemned to death — Rulers announced that Jesus would have to die.
    • Flogged – to beat someone with a whip as punishment
    • Crucify — To kill by nailing a person’s hands and feet to a cross.
    • Golgotha – also called Calvary, skull-shaped hill in Jerusalem, the site of Jesus’ crucifixion
    • Tomb — a special place, like a small cave, where Jesus’ body was laid after He died
    • Resurrection — Even though Jesus had been dead for three days, God made Him come back alive so His friends would know that Jesus really is God’s Son.

Palm Sunday & Passion Week Family Resources

Sunday, April 5th – Kiokee Worship Service

Today is Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter, and marks the beginning of Passion or Holy Week, the week of events leading up to Jesus’ death.

A word from Ms. Sherry …

This is a Family Worship Sunday for Kiokee.  If we were meeting on campus, parents would take their children to one of our Worship Services where the family, as a whole, would worship together.  Remember, as a church we believe it is important for us to have a healthy balance between the times we offer Children’s Worship and Family Worship.  Why?  Because we know that when a child sees that their parents have fallen in love with the worship of the Lord, that sets the stage for the child to learn how to fall in love with worshipping the Lord as well.  Parents have before them the wonderful opportunity to make the single greatest impact that can be made in the life of their child spiritually.   We pray that you will take advantage of this opportunity and find great joy in pointing your child to Christ.

We suggest that you begin your Sunday morning by gathering your family together to watch Kiokee’s Worship Service posted on our church website.

Parents:  Even though you are at home, encourage your children to stand and sing. Place your hand on their hand or shoulder to signal when it is time to bow their head and close their eyes to pray.  Help them find the passage of scripture that Steve will be reading in their bibles and help them follow along as Steve reads.

In addition to watching Kiokee’s Worship Service, take note of the scripture passage that Steve reads during his sermon and afterwards have your family participate in the three key elements of Family Worship – Read the bible passage from the sermon, Pray and then Sing a chorus from one of the worship songs our band  led us in today.

Parenting Articles

It is very important for parents to remember that children look to adults for guidance on how to react to stressful events. If parents seem overly worried, children’s anxiety may rise as well.  Your children are taking their cues for how to handle what is happening in the world right now from you.  As you focus on trusting, hoping, and resting in the Lord, so will your child.  Let’s purpose as parents to point our kids to the One who knows all, sees all and is in control of all things; Jesus.
