A weekend summer camp experience for students entering 5th and 6th grade in the Fall of 2019.

Psalm 119:11 says, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

Temptation comes for all of us, but the Bible tells us that God will always provide a way out of temptation so it does not trap us in the snare of sin. As we store up God’s Word in our hearts, we can be ready to deal with temptations that come our way. Join us for Escape Room and learn how to: 1. Follow The Clues – Temptation to sin does not come from God. If we follow the clues, we will see where temptation truly comes from. 2. Remember The Clock is Ticking – Sometimes we don’t give into temptation right away; we let it hang around and just keep thinking about it. The clock is ticking on our ability to fight temptation; we need to flee as soon as it shows up. 3. Crack the Code – No one is immune from being tempted – not even Jesus when he lived on this earth. Jesus cracked the code on how to resist temptation: Know God’s Word.

Join us for three fun filled days packed with outrageous games, awesome crafts, swimming, inflatables, fishing and Jesus! Come hang out with old friends and make new ones!

There is a small cost to attend The Retreat, but we do not want finances to prohibit any student from being a part of this great weekend! Scholarships are available and kept completely confidential.

Please contact Sherry Matherly, Director of Children’s Ministry, for scholarship information. Retreat registration forms will be mailed the first of April and will also be available at kiokee.org/the-retreat. Frequently Asked Questions

Many years ago at Kiokee our rising 5th and 6th graders went to VBS during the summer. When we began to notice a decrease in attendance for this age group, an alternative summer ministry event was planned for them – The Retreat. We take our tweens who don’t always feel like they fit in VBS but are too young for a student ministry camp, and pour into them with 3 days of friends, fun and Jesus. This short weekend camp is a first step towards being prepared to attend a week long camp in Student Ministry.

Large group teaching sessions, small group discussions, recreation, theme games, crafts geared to their age, swimming and pool games, inflatables, laser tag, archery, fishing and more!

Busy! We start at 8:00 a.m. and stay active all day. A complete minute by minute schedule for each day is mailed to parents once a child is registered to attend.

We typically have 2 counselors for every child.

High school students through adults.

Absolutely! But please note that we will not assign a parent counselor to be in the same group with their own child. This allows you to be at camp in close proximity to your child but at the same time allows your child to experience some independence while they are at camp as well.

Each child will be assigned to a Retreat Team. A minimum of 2 adult and student counselors are assigned to oversee each team. Retreat Team have their own color and every child receives a bandana to wear that matches their team colors. Upon arrival at camp, we have a welcome time where children are placed on their team and introduced to their team counselors. Following this welcome time, everything that campers do for the remainder of the weekend is supervised by their team counselors as well as the camp director and assistant director.

We have a separate girl/boy dorm. These buildings are across camp from each other. Male/female counselors are housed in these same dorms. Bathrooms with showers are located inside each dorm building.

We typically have a nurse on site with us at camp. If a nurse is not available to attend, we have a minimum of 3 First Aid/CPR certified counselors with us. All medications are collected before we leave for camp and are kept in a locked medicine box. The camp nurse/First Aid counselor distributes medications as needed.

Although it’s not very common, we have had a few children become homesick. Typically campers are so busy and having such a good time that they don’t think of home. But in the event that a child does become homesick, we have many years of experience and a well-trained staff to handle these situations. If for some reason your child cannot be consoled when feeling homesick, the camp director will contact you. We do not allow children to call home as this tends to compound homesickness and make it more difficult for the child to adjust to staying at camp.
